Greymouth High School vs Aranui High School LEAGUE FUNDRAISER

25 May 2011

Grey High Gears Up for Big Match

With only five days to go, Greymouth High School is gearing up for Aranui High School’s arrival for a charity league match between the two schools. The match, to be held at Wingham Park on Wednesday 25th May, will raise funds for Christchurch Schools damaged by the February Earthquake. This will be in the form of a donation to the NZ School Trustees Association’sCanterbury Earthquake Schools Relief Fund which is a fund targetted at helping schools in Canterbury. Schools can apply for funding from this to help their school's recover. Aranui High School and the suburb of Aranui were affected hugely by the February earthquake and this fund is designed to help schools, like Aranui, recover.

Greymouth High School’s Student Council have organised the transportation, accommodation, facilities and promotion of the game, with huge donations from Ritchies and Greymouth Top Ten, while the GHS team has been set up by students and staff with support from West Coast Rugby League. The Student Council wanted to help with Christchurch and found this to be a great way to do so. The  raffle which runs from Monday has awesome prizes donated by West Coast Rugby League.  There will also be a mufti-day at GHS on Wednesday to help boost the donation. Boyd Becker, Student Council Chair, says “we hope that we will be able to raise a decent contribution for the fund that will help schools like Aranui and we thank them for coming over as we wouldn't be able to do this without them. It should be a great game”.

Game kicks-off at 7pm and tickets sold at door. $5 over 18s and $2 under 18s
