Where Will I Stay?
Students will stay with a vetted and approved family in a New Zealand home (Home stay).
The home stay will support the student's personal, social and academic life.
A home stay will provide you with:
- A warm, comfortable room.
- Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, you may be asked to make your school lunch.
- Laundry, you may be asked to help with the washing of your clothes
- A safe and caring environment to learn and enjoy the Kiwi way of life.
- Conversation and interaction with the family to help improve your English
There will be reasonable rules for you to follow which discussed between yourself, your family and the school.
New Zealand homes:
A typical NZ home will have 3 or 4 bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, bathroom and laundry.
Many homes have pets (cat, dog etc) and most have a garden.
Most homes will have an internet connection, but if not you will have time to use the school internet or the Public Library in Greymouth

Home stay Rules
1. The Student must keep the basic rules of the new home stay.
2. The Student will not abuse the use of the telephone and Internet (if applicable).
3. The Student will not leave the home stay without clearly stating where she/he is going and with whom and at what time he/she will return (all within the home stay basic rules).
4. The Student will not leave his/her home stay late at night when he/she should be in bed.
5. The Student will not resort to emotional behaviour where by she feigns loss of consciousness and wastes medical/home stay time and resources.
6. The Student must come and talk over any problems with Mr Luders or the School Guidance Counsellor before acting in any way against these requirements.
7. Students may not travel in Vehicles with out Adult supervision unless appropriate permission is given.
8. Students must abide by New Zealand laws regarding consumption of Alcohol and smoking.
9. Students may not get piercing or tattoos without written parental permission.
School Rules
Although you have signed an agreement with the agency, we do have school rules you must follow:
1. Students must abide by the laws of New Zealand.
2. Students must attend classes at all times unless they have prior permission from the school to be absent. A doctor’s certificate is required for prolonged illness.
3. Students must complete all set assignments, class work and homework to the best of their ability.
4. Students must comply with the reasonable instructions of the school and their teachers.
5. Rude and rebellious behaviour will not be accepted.
6. In accordance with the New Zealand law, students riding bicycles must wear helmets.
7. Smoking is not permitted on the school premises at any time or any time where you can be identified as a member of the school. The legal smoking age in New Zealand is 18.
8. No alcoholic liquor is permitted on the school premises at any time. The legal drinking age in New Zealand is 18.
9. No illegal drugs are permitted on the premises at any time. The Student Visa will be revoked if the student is caught in possession of illegal drugs at any time.
10. Regulation uniform is required for students in Year 9 to Year 12 except when a student has turned 18 prior to commencement of study.
11. Term dates are to be kept to. All holiday travel should occur in holiday time unless with parental or school permission.
12. Students must behave in an acceptable manner in their home stay accommodation.
