Greymouth High School Sport Programme
Rationale
Sport is a natural part of active leisure whether you compete for championships or just for fun. Greymouth High School encourages its students and staff to take part in some form of regular physical activity. PE classes, outdoor activities and sports are offered at the school. We also attempt to continuously improve the facilities available and increase the opportunities to play sport by students, staff and community.
Some of our objectives are:
• To encourage more people (students and staff) of all ages and ability to take part in sport and physical- recreational activities whilst enjoying their leisure time, providing opportunities for students to enhance their quality of life
• To raise standards of Greymouth High School’s sport performance, providing opportunities for students to achieve to the highest level of their ability, through participation in sport and physical activity
There are many different sport & physical activities running in the school during interval and lunch time every day. Students have free access to a large range of sport equipment and facilities where to practice: kayaking, badminton, volleyball, basketball, rugby, netball, football & aerobic-dance are some of the most popular options.
To improve the standard of the school’s sport performance the school provides qualified human resources for its sport teams’ representatives. We attend a wide range of national and South Island tournaments. A close relationship with our community and national sport bodies provide our students all the opportunities and necessary pathways to succeed in sport.
The school also helps those students achieving high performance level in sport by its Pro Sport and the Junior Sport programmes.
