Our Curriculum
Greymouth High School offers a wide range of subjects to support students’ interests, strengths, and future pathways. Our teaching and learning programmes are available through the Akoranga Learning Hub, giving students and whānau access to course information.
Years 9 and 10 students learn in core classes for their main subjects, while students in Years 11–13 choose from a variety of courses leading towards NCEA. More information can be found in the Senior Curriculum Guide 2026 below.
NCEA
NZQA’s purpose is to support learners in New Zealand by:
- making sure they have access to quality training and can learn their whole lives
- keeping complete records of their educational achievements
- letting them take their achievements with them anywhere in the world
- setting them up for success through our resources and services.
For NZQA resources and videos, visit their website.
Read or download this Guide for more information on NCEA.
Extension
At Greymouth High School, students have the opportunity to challenge themselves beyond the classroom by taking part in a range of academic competitions and clubs. From Maths, Science and English competitions to Homework Club and Chess Club, there’s something for everyone who enjoys going the extra mile.
These are a great way to extend learning, develop new skills, and have fun with like-minded peers. Students can sign up, or get more information, by emailing Mrs Coutts, couttss@greyhigh.school.nz, or respective HoD’s for a permission slip.
EOTC
At Greymouth High School, learning often extends beyond the classroom. Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) includes trips and activities such as museum or marae visits, sports events, field trips, and outdoor education camps. These opportunities help students connect their learning to real-life experiences, while we make sure everything is safe, well planned, and enjoyable.
We’ll always let you know what level a trip falls under, what it involves, and what permissions are required. Our goal is to give students safe, memorable, and meaningful learning experiences outside the classroom.
