We had a team of 5 runners jump across the hill to take on Canterbury runners!
On the 3rd June we have five Greymouth HS runners make the drive over to the East Coast to compete in the Canterbury Cross Country event that saw a HUGE amount of athletes enter across many age groups.
The course was at Ascot Park with Year 9s, Junior and Senior Girls completing the 3km distances and the Senior Boys 4km. Mr Henderson, who is a triathlete and running enthusiast could not have been happier to do this day trip with the group of talented Greymouth HS runners. Mr Henderson said our junior runners posted some great stuff and got some really good experience being part of such a large event. The two senior students of Alyssa and Clark made their presence known amongst the field leading for the first half lap in their respected races.
It was also fantastic to see Jack Anderson from Buller HS (pictured above), Rebecca Gallaway, Jack Newman and Julian Guppy from Karma AS, Jessie Smith and Caleb Berry from Westland HS all in attendance at this event in Christchurch. Great to have so much West Coast representation on the East Coast!
Congratulations to all of our runners! Great to see them going toe to toe with some pretty big Canterbury schools and representing the Greymouth HS and the West Coast with pride! Watch this space as boy do we have some exciting runners coming through our school.
Thank you to Jimmy Brown for getting some snaps of the runners in action, as you can see it was a stunning day for running!
