School Sport Opportunities 2023

For 2023 there is HEAPS of sporting opportunities for our students that include West Coast Secondary School, Canterbury Secondary School, South Island Secondary School and National events of one day or multiday events. Check out the year calendar below!
On top of these events we have our HUGE full school Athletics Day on the 21st February and the fun full school Cross Country on the 9th May – at both of these events you have the opportunity to earn house points towards the coveted House Shield. Plus working with our student leadership team we will be running multiple sporting events during breaktimes to help those house points continue to tick over.
Use the GHS sign up form HERE to let us know what sports you are interested in doing for 2023 – This helps us let you know all the important information about sport at school.
As you are at secondary school now you are a young adult, this means YOU are responsible for signing up to different sports, attending trainings and getting your permission slips returned to attend all these great sporting opportunities. Don’t miss out!
Winter Tournament Week is our biggest week of sport at school and we plan on sending away multiple teams to represent our school such as:
- Senior and Junior Netball
- Senior and Junior Boys and Girls Basketball
- U15 Boys Rugby
- Open Girls Rugby 10s
- Open Girls and Boys Hockey
- Open Boys Football
- Senior Boys Rugby League
All of these teams have trials choosing only a certain amount of players to represent our school, some of these teams like Hockey, Rugby and Football are often combined with the other West Coast Secondary Schools – without doing this these teams do not have enough players to send teams away. We are very grateful all the other schools are so supportive of these opportunities to combine teams to attend Winter Tournament Week.
