Our Staff

We have dedicated specialist teachers who want the best for our students. They go above and beyond to ensure that all of our rangatahi find success in their different pathways. Our teachers work collaboratively and engage in both internal and external professional development to stay current with the latest pedagogical methods and any updates to the curriculum or assessment standards set by the Ministry of Education.

Deans

At Greymouth High School, each year level has a Dean whose role is to support students’ learning, wellbeing, and overall success. Deans keep track of how students are doing both academically and personally, celebrating achievements and stepping in with support when challenges arise.

They work closely with students, parents and whānau, mentor teachers, the Careers Services team, and school leaders to make sure every learner has the chance to reach their potential. Deans also help to build a positive year-level culture where students feel valued, and their successes are recognised, in line with our school’s vision and values.

As well as their Dean roles, they are also classroom teachers and involved in other school activities, so while they may not respond straight away, they will be in touch with you as soon as they can.

Teaching Staff

Our Mentor Teachers play an important part in the daily life of our students. They create a welcoming, inclusive environment in the Mentor class. Their role is to build strong relationships with students through frequent, supportive engagement, guiding them to set goals, track their progress, and feel confident in their learning journey.

Mentor Teachers also support student wellbeing by checking in on uniform, attendance, and referrals, sharing daily notices, and following up where needed. Mentor time is also when our free school lunches are served, providing another opportunity to connect and care for students. They are a key point of contact for parents and whānau, working closely with Deans and subject teachers to ensure each young person is well supported both in and beyond the classroom.
